Description
Talbot’s Demoiselle (Chrysiptera talboti)
The Talbot’s Demoiselle is a peaceful and beautifully coloured marine damselfish known for its soft pastel yellow body and subtle blue facial markings. Unlike many damselfish species that can become highly aggressive, Talbot’s Demoiselles are regarded as one of the more community-friendly members of the family, making them an excellent choice for reef aquariums and peaceful marine setups.
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around coral-rich reef slopes and lagoons, this species spends much of its time hovering close to rockwork and darting into crevices when startled. Their gentle coloration and calm behaviour make them ideal for hobbyists looking for a smaller reef-safe fish that adds movement without excessive aggression.
Talbot’s Demoiselles are hardy, active, and adapt well to aquarium life, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
Why You’ll Love the Talbot’s Demoiselle
- Soft yellow coloration with attractive blue facial highlights
- One of the more peaceful damselfish species
- Hardy and easy to care for
- Reef safe with corals and most invertebrates
- Active swimmer that adds movement to the aquarium
Appearance & Behaviour
Talbot’s Demoiselles typically grow to around 5–6 cm and feature a pale yellow to cream-coloured body with subtle blue accents around the face and eyes. Some individuals may also display a faint darker patch near the dorsal fin.
They are active but relatively peaceful fish that spend much of their time weaving through rockwork and hovering near caves or coral structures. While generally calm compared to other damsels, they may still defend a favourite hiding spot from similarly sized fish in smaller aquariums.
They can be kept singly, in pairs, or in groups in larger aquariums with sufficient territory.
