Branching Alveopora Coral

Flowing Flower-Like Elegance

The Branching Alveopora Coral is a graceful and eye-catching LPS coral, admired for its long, flower-like polyps and elegant branching skeleton. Often referred to as a “flower coral,” Alveopora displays clusters of delicate tentacles, each ending in small rounded tips that resemble tiny blossoms swaying gently in the current.

Unlike the more common ball-shaped varieties, the branching form of Alveopora grows upward in structured branches, giving it a more open and architectural appearance. This growth pattern not only adds height and dimension to your aquascape but also allows for better water flow between branches, contributing to overall coral health.

Available in soft greens, creams, and subtle pastel tones, Alveopora develops a beautiful glow under blue lighting, making it a calming yet visually striking addition to both mixed reef and LPS-dominant aquariums.

Why You’ll Love Branching Alveopora

  • Long, flower-like polyps create gentle, natural movement
  • Unique branching structure adds height and dimension
  • Elegant alternative to Goniopora with a softer look
  • Beautiful fluorescence under blue spectrum lighting
  • Ideal for adding flow and texture to reef tanks

Branching Alveopora is perfect for reef keepers who want a coral that combines structure with soft, flowing movement.

Care & Placement 🧪🌊

Lighting:
Low to moderate lighting is ideal. Avoid placing directly under intense light, as this can cause stress or reduced polyp extension.

Water Flow:
Moderate, indirect flow is best. The polyps should sway gently — too little flow may lead to detritus buildup, while too much flow can cause retraction.

Placement:
Best placed on lower to mid rockwork, where it has space to extend fully. The branching structure benefits from open placement to allow water to move freely between branches.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 24–26°C
  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026
  • Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH
  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
  • Nitrate: Low to moderate
  • Phosphate: Stable, low levels

Stable parameters are essential, as Alveopora can be sensitive to sudden changes.

Feeding & Growth 🍤

While Branching Alveopora is photosynthetic, it benefits significantly from regular feeding, which helps maintain polyp extension and encourages healthy growth.

Recommended foods:

  • Phytoplankton
  • Fine zooplankton or reef blends
  • Powdered coral foods

Broadcast feeding a few times per week is ideal, as the extended polyps are well-suited to capturing small suspended particles.

Growth is generally moderate, with the coral extending upward and outward through branching formation, creating a fuller colony over time.

Aquascaping Inspiration

Branching Alveopora works beautifully as a mid-level feature coral, where its flowing polyps can catch the light and current. It pairs especially well with LPS corals like Euphyllia or Blastomussa, as well as soft corals, creating a balanced mix of movement and structure.

Its upright growth makes it a great choice for filling vertical space without overshadowing lower corals.
