🌱 Langa Soil – Nutrient-Rich Substrate for Planted Aquariums
Boost Plant Growth • Stabilize pH • Ready to Use
Langa Soil is a premium-quality active substrate, specifically formulated to support lush, healthy aquatic plant growth. Designed with planted tanks in mind, it’s ideal for aquascapers, shrimp breeders, and anyone who wants vibrant plant coloration and stable water parameters.
This soil slowly releases nutrients and helps buffer the water to a slightly acidic pH—perfect for most aquatic plants and shrimp species like Caridina and Neocaridina.
🌾 Key Benefits:
- 🌿 Plant-Optimized Formula: Encourages strong root development and vivid growth
- 🧪 Stabilizes pH: Naturally buffers water to slightly acidic levels (around 6.0–6.5)
- 🧼 Crystal Clear Water: Minimizes clouding with proper rinsing
- 🦐 Shrimp-Friendly: Ideal for sensitive shrimp species like Caridina
- ⏱️ Long-Lasting: Maintains structure and effectiveness for up to 1–2 years
- 💧 No Additional Cap Needed: Can be used on its own without a gravel topper
📦 What You’ll Receive:
Available in various pack sizes to suit tanks big or small. Typically comes in:
- 3L bags (suitable for nano and small tanks)
- 8L bags (great for medium to large aquariums)
🔄 Usage Tip: Do not rinse before use. Fill your tank slowly to avoid clouding. A slight haze may occur initially but will clear up quickly with proper filtration.
🛠️ How to Set Up Your Aquarium with Langa Soil
Langa Soil is an active substrate, so proper handling ensures optimal performance and long-term success.
🧤 What You’ll Need:
- Langa Soil
- Aquarium (clean and dry)
- Hardscape (rocks, wood, etc.)
- Plants (optional)
- A plate, bowl, or plastic bag (to reduce soil disturbance)
- Dechlorinated water or RO water
📋 Step-by-Step Guide:
- Do NOT rinse the soil
- Langa Soil is designed to be used straight out of the bag.
- Rinsing will wash away beneficial properties and cause clouding.
- Add the soil to your tank
- Pour the soil in gently.
- Aim for a depth of 4–6 cm (1.5–2.5″) for planted tanks.
- Slope the substrate from back (higher) to front (lower) for a natural look and better perspective.
- Arrange hardscape
- Position rocks and driftwood before adding water.
- Be gentle to avoid compacting or disturbing the substrate.
- Plant your aquatic plants (optional but recommended)
- Insert root-feeding plants directly into the soil.
- You can mist the soil lightly with water to help plants stay in place.
- Fill the tank slowly
- Place a plate, bowl, or plastic sheet over the soil.
- Gently pour water over the plate to avoid stirring up the soil.
- Install filter and heater
- Add your equipment, but don’t turn it on until the tank is full.
- Start filtration and monitor
- Turn on your filter and heater once full.
- Expect a slight haze in the water that will clear up within a few hours to a day.
- Cycle the tank
- Langa Soil may lower pH, so monitor water parameters.
- Use ammonia or fishless cycling to build up beneficial bacteria.
💡 Pro Tips:
- Great for Caridina shrimp, soft-water fish, and lush plant setups.
- Avoid stirring the substrate after setup to prevent water clouding.
- Perform regular water changes during the first few weeks to manage nutrients.
🧱 Aquarium Substrate Comparison Chart
Substrate Type | Best For | Buffering Capability | Plant Support | Appearance | Water Parameters Impact | Maintenance | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Langa Soil | Shrimp tanks, planted aquariums | ✅ Lowers pH, softens water | ✅ Excellent | Dark, natural look | Lowers pH/KH (acidic) | Moderate | Nutrient-rich; ideal for Caridina shrimp. Do not rinse. |
Tropica Soil | Planted aquariums | ✅ Slight acidic buffering | ✅ Excellent | Rich dark granules | Slightly lowers pH | Moderate | Ready to use, supports healthy plant growth |
Inert Gravel | Community tanks, cichlids | ❌ None | 🚫 Poor (needs root tabs) | Natural tones | Neutral | Easy | Best for non-planted tanks |
Inert Sand | Bottom-dwellers (e.g. Corydoras) | ❌ None | 🚫 Poor | Light-colored, soft | Neutral | Can compact | Stir regularly to prevent anaerobic spots |
Fluorite / Clay-Based | Heavily planted tanks | ❌ None | ✅ Good | Reddish-brown | Neutral | Moderate | Can be dusty, rinse thoroughly |
Crushed Coral / Aragonite | African cichlids, marine tanks | ✅ Raises pH and GH | 🚫 Poor | White/off-white | Increases hardness & alkalinity | Easy | Ideal for hard-water fish |
🌱 Quick Tips:
-
For soft-water species & shrimp: Langa or Tropica Soil work best.
-
For high-tech planted tanks: Tropica Soil or Fluorite offer great nutrient support.
-
For general community tanks: Any gravel of your choice.
-
